Our story
The New Bluegrass Band is a creative and diverse musical group from Shanghai. Rooted in American bluegrass music, they blend global musical elements to create a unique style. Each member incorporates their hometown’s musical traditions, combining the rhythm and techniques of bluegrass with the expansive melodies of Mongolian folk songs and the elegance of Chinese traditional tunes, showcasing the charm of East-West fusion.
The band boldly breaks traditional boundaries by incorporating jazz improvisation, funk grooves, rock energy, and the accessibility of pop music, making their music both culturally grounded and modern with an international perspective. Through their innovative spirit, they have gained recognition in China and attracted international audiences, with every performance offering a journey through time and space, highlighting the fusion of tradition and modernity, East and West.
As the central figure of the band, Pang Zhipeng has been collaborating with various musicians since 2012, focusing on bluegrass music as the foundation for his creative work and performances.

Since 2014, Nancy Nan has spent over a decade traveling to the United States for musical studies. With her innovative spirit, she has delved into the roots of Chinese folk music, blending country and bluegrass with uniquely Chinese elements of pop and traditional music, striving to promote country music with Chinese characteristics.
She has collaborated with renowned artists at home and abroad, including Grammy Award-winning musicians such as Mike Block, Mike Marshall, and Nathan East. Additionally, she was a special guest at the Shanghai concert of Cui Jian, widely known as the "Godfather of Rock" in China.
Zhipeng Pang is an innovative mandolinist, composer, and educator. He has been praised by David Grisman as "the combination of mandolin and throat singing—a groundbreaking and highly innovative exploration."
He graduated from the Violin program at the Art College of Mongolia University and, in 2009, attended the Bluegrass Mandolin performance program at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he received a full scholarship.
He is also a member of the first Asian band invited to perform at RockyGrass, the largest bluegrass festival in the United States. As an innovator, he blends elements of Mongolian music with blues, pop, and funk, creating a diverse and unique style of world music.
